Born and brought up in Yorkshire, Linda Barker originally trained as a fine artist but gradually migrated those skills across to a career in Interior Design.
From the mid 1990s Linda was at the very heart of making decorating our homes so extraordinarily popular with the British public. As part of the original team on BBC’s pioneering show Changing Rooms Linda went on to become one of the most recognised designers in the country.
Changing Rooms was also a phenomenal international success in virtually every English speaking TV territory around the world and while Linda was with the show it reached its peak popularity, attracting audiences of over ten million viewers per episode.
Ever since then Linda has continued to develop her career as a writer, broadcaster and interior designer across the private and corporate sectors - while still maintaining a presence in the popular media with TV appearances on such programmes as House Invaders, I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here, MasterChef, Come Dine With Me, 60 Minute Makeover and Splash!
Linda was also an extensively publicised designer of sofas at DFS for seven years and was then Creative Consultant at Wren Kitchens for a further three years. Alongside all this, Linda ran her own interior accessories mail order business for over a decade.
Among her collection of awards and accolades are 'Designer of the Year' (House Beautiful magazine) a 'This Is Your Life' programme on ITV, 'TV Personality of the Year' (Your Home magazine), 'Yorkshire Woman of the Year' and Interiors ‘Makeover Maestro’ (Radio Times readers).
To date her global book sales exceed two million and Linda now sits on several awards judging panels in the UK Interior Design sector.
In 2018 Linda was recruited by Lissett Homes to completely re-think the interior design of their luxury lodge holiday homes, and Linda has also been working extensively with the Edinburgh based company Multipanel to design an exclusive range of bathroom wall cladding.
Linda is also currently an ambassador for the Used Kitchen Exchange - with ambitions to change the incredibly wasteful way we just tend to trash our old kitchens.
Outside her ongoing professional commitments Linda currently has one husband, one daughter, one dog, and one all consuming refurbishment project of a 200 year old country house in Yorkshire. Linda is also a very accomplished cook, gardener and wellbeing enthusiast (she ran the London marathon) and is currently growing most of her own food in her Yorkshire garden.
